Millwood Lake

Impounded: 1966

Surface Acres: 29,260

Shore Line: 65 Miles

Max Depth: 25ft

Millwood Lake (Reservoir) is located on Arkansas Highway 32, nine miles east of Ashdown Arkansas. Millwood was formed when the state’s longest eastern dam (3.33 miles long) was completed in 1966, where the Little River and the Saline River connect.

Millwood Lake is mainly recognized for its fishing and beauty. Millwood has also been known as one of the best Bass fishing lakes in the United States. In the early years the Bassmasters made frequent stops on Millwood Lake during their tournament trail. Bill Dance once said that the next world record Large Mouth Bass would come out of Millwood Lake. Well that never happened, but there are plenty of giant bass to stretch your line. The AGFC stocks Millwood with Florida Strain Bass annually.

Millwood Lake is a superb lake to fish due to its almost 25000 acres of flooded timber and submerged vegetation that make excellent habitat for many species of fish. You can find both Largemouth and Kentucky Spotted Bass in any part of the lake or its river system. As a matter of fact Millwood Lake has everything a fisherman is looking for. From some open water structure on the main lake to the 25,000 acres of flooded timber and back water off the little river.

Millwood Lake is a fishery that works with any anglers strengths. From power fishing, to finesse fishing, punching grass, frogs, top water, grass lines or working a big worm on the ledges of the Little River, Millwood lake has it all.

But don’t think that Lady Millwood is a pushover. She can, and will make you work for every bite. She can be as giving as an angel one day, and mean as a snake the next. But if you treat her right she can give you a limit of a lifetime.

Millwood Lake will treat you so many  ways. Well?....... You will just have to like one of them.

Study hard and make a plan. And bring ole biggun to the weigh-in stand.
